Mise en scene blog task

1.  Costume: he is wearing a simple grey hoodie and t shirt, making him look like an ordinary person  which contrasts with the current situation.

Lighting: The lightning is quite low-key  creating a tense frightening atmosphere. the light is also focuesd on his face ( top light)  making his expression stand out.

Actors: His wide eyes, open mouth and tense face shows shock, fear and panic. his body also appears stiff and tense.

Makeup: His eyes are red and watery, with tears running down his face. This makes his tears and distress more obvious

Setting: It appears as if the actor is in a poorly dim lit room almost blacked out, creating further suspicion and building an enigma code for the audience.

2.  The Shining:

Clueless:

Both the shining and clueless use mise en scene to communicate the atmosphere of their scenes, but they create very different effects. In the shining, the large, empty hotel setting, contrasting red and pale colours and Danny's isolated positioning create a sense of danger and vulnerability. In contrast, clueless uses bright lighting, colourful visions and fashionable props to create a youthful and energetic atmosphere. Therefore, while the shining uses mise en scene to make an ordinary environment appear threatening, clueless uses it to emphasise its glamorous and sociable teenage world
